LIT and CIT Programs

Dear Parent and Potential LIT or CIT,

North Woods & Pleasant Valley Camps are committed to the mission of the YMCA, our campers, and our staff. As we plan for our future we realize that one area vital to our continued success is growing excellent leaders and staff. We are pleased to inform you that your child has taken a step in that direction by showing interest in North Woods/Pleasant Valley’s LIT/LGT Program.

This is a two year program for campers interested in becoming counselors. The first year is the LIT/LGT program and the second year is the CIT program. Each summer requires a four week commitment during which your child will gain experience working with campers, teaching activities, and helping out around Camp. LITs will take lifeguard training or gain experience in another skill area, contribute positively to Camp by doing Legacy Projects, and begin leadership education. During their second year CITs will work more in depth with campers and actually teach activities! In order to provide the best growth experience possible, both will participate in leadership training sessions, gain camper cabin experience, and be constantly evaluated to determine their needs as they mature to the high standards set for our staff.

The goal of the program is not only to produce well trained counselors, but to also provide important life skills for adolescents’ futures. Program requirements are the completion of grade 9 and 15 years of age by 9/30 of the first year LITs enter the program. Every age appropriate Senior has the opportunity to apply to the program however space is limited. Applying campers are evaluated on such traits as: attitude, enthusiasm, effort, leadership, and work ethic. LIT/LGTs will be chosen by their evaluations, willingness to commit to two years, and space availability.

We request that you and your son or daughter discuss the concepts of the four week/two year commitment and decide if it is really for them. This new program is designed to build valuable skills and a sense of commitment. We truly hope that your family will take part. If you are not interested in the program we invite you to continue enjoying all Camp has to offer as a camper. Enclosed is an application. Please fill it out and return it to us by October 31st, in order to be considered for the program.

Sincerely,

Artie Lang
